Family friendly day out

There are so many amazing family days out on offer in Northumberland but Alnwick Gardens narrowly topped our list for popular attractions perfect for a picnic.

After paying a small entry fee (children under 4 go free), you can explore the exquisite grounds all day. In summer you can see the thousands of breath-taking flowers in full bloom and after a long day of exploring, relax in front of the grand cascade and soak in the sun with a relaxing picnic while the children play among the water features, just make sure to bring a change of clothes!

Right on our doorstep

If you’re planning a stay in one of our coastal cottages then why not take a trip to the magnificent Bamburgh Castle. Located just 2 miles from Budle Bay and around 3.5 miles from Lucker, it’s a great option for a fun day out.

Offering superb views, you can enjoy a picnic on the castle grounds or down on the beach at the foot of the castle. Dogs are welcome on both the beach and castle grounds so don’t worry about leaving your four-legged friend at home!

Remember to take your camera to capture the amazing views.

Coastal retreat

The beautiful Alnmouth Beach is a popular attraction in Northumberland while still managing to maintain a relaxing atmosphere. Offering outstanding views and various spots to enjoy your picnic, it is a great option for the whole family and is also dog friendly! Walk along the beach and find a quiet spot to sit and enjoy the fresh air and tranquillity.

Scenic break

Located in Northumberland national park, Ingram is a picturesque village located on the River Breamish surrounded by forest and hills perfect for all walking abilities.

Ingram is the perfect place to start one of the many hill walks on offer to explore the area. Stop for a picnic at any point on your way up for amazing views of the countryside.  Suitable for the whole family and of course pet friendly, this is a great option if you want to get away from any hustle and bustle for the day.

A historic landmark

Hadrian’s Wall is a day out everybody should experience. Stretching 73 miles from coast-to-coast, it is an iconic landmark in the north. Walltown is a beautiful location in Northumberland that we recommend when visiting Hadrian’s Wall, offering beautiful woodlands, picnic spots and plenty of smaller circular walks, it’s a brilliant day out whether you’re an experienced walker or not. It also goes without saying that wherever you choose to stop the views will be breath-taking.
