3. NEWBIGGIN KITE FESTIVAL

This year marks the 8th annual Kite Festival in Newbiggin by the Sea. Run by Newbiggin Maritime Centre, this year’s event will take place from 10am – 4pm on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21stApril – Easter Weekend. Watch in awe as international kite flyers show off their wonderful kite flying skills. Be sure to get involved in the children’s kite making workshops too!

While you’re there, take time to explore the history of this Northumberland fishing village. The Maritime Centre is home to a three-gallery museum which comprises of the Fishing Gallery, the Community Gallery and the Mary Joicey Hall. All this activity is bound to build up your appetite, so why not pause for a bite to eat at the Breakwater Café? Tuck into local food while taking in the view of the bay.

Their Family Explorer Challenge includes seasonal nature trails for all the family, as well as activities such as scavenger hunts, wildlife spotting and measuring giant trees.
